the local doctor was trying to operate while members of his own family were dying. He insisted on showing us the hospital after receiving the supplies
The only building not to suffer serious collapse was the school-no or very few casualties here... and they asked us to try and lift the mood somehow...

Simon Edwards:
First of all, I want to salute the bravery of the people, the army, the doctors and the nurses of Sichuan Province. In the face of one of the world’s biggest natural disasters, I have seen courage, determination and resolve. We have seen the horrors of Dujiangyan, Tongji and Siwen. The people have lost everything and yet the strength of spirit in these places is something we can all learn from. My deepest sympathy and respect goes to all the families affected by this tragic event.
The human spirit has a way of rebuilding and if we all stick together, work together and act together, Sichuan Province will recover. We can not bring back those lost but we can respect their memories by helping those who need the help most.
