Sichuan University (SCU) (四川大学) (Founded in 1896)

Sichuan University (simplified Chinese: 四川大学; traditional Chinese: 四川大學; pinyin: Sìchuān Dàxué, often shortened simply to"川大") is one of the oldest national universities in China. It is ranked No. 8 among the Chinese universities according to the 2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities.

Sichuan University is one of the national universities directly under the Ministry of Education (MOE). It is also one of the State 211 Project and 985 Project universities enjoying privileged construction in the Ninth Five-Year Plan period.

The president of the university is Professor Xie Heping, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Faculty

Sichuan University has a current total staff of 11,357, among which 1,323 are professors, 2,345 associate professors, 10 academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 434 tutors of doctoral students, and 17 members of the Academic Degrees Committee and the Discipline Appraisal Group under the State Council. SCU has 14 professorships from the Yangtze River Scholar Award Plan (9 engaged plus 1 lecture professor).

Research

Sichuan University has two national key labs, six national engineering centers, five ministerial (MOE) key labs, 35 provincial key labs, 10 ministerial and provincial centers, four key research bases for humanities and social sciences, and four clinical research bases at the national level. The university has invested significantly in research, teaching and medical equipment, with a total value of about 530 million RMB.

SCU has undertaken and completed a considerable number of national, ministerial and regional research projects, and has made many achievements that are rated first class in China and bear significant international influence. The university publishes more than 4,000 research papers annually.

In 2002, the university's state and central government funding ranked fifth among Chinese universities; it was ranked seventh for the number of publications and eleventh for publications included in SCI. The citations ranked fifteenth among Chinese universities. The number of publications in science, engineering and medicine ranked sixth, and the citations ranked seventh among Chinese universities. In 2002, the university applied for 121 patents, 102 out of which were invention-oriented, making it number eighth among peer schools.

Campuses

Sichuan University's three campuses are located in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province. The older Wangjiang campus (望江) is in central Chendu, adjacent to the Jinjiang River and its tributary the Jiang'an River. The nearby Huaxi (华西) Campus is the site of the medical school. The Jiang'an (江安) Campus was built in 2003 in Shuangliu County about 12.5 km away from the older campuses; it covers an area of about 4.7 km² and has total floorage of more than 2.7 million m².

Southwest Jiaotong University (西南交通大学) (Founded in 1896)

Southwest Jiaotong University (simplified Chinese: 西南交通大学; pinyin: xī'nán jiāotōng dàxué) is one of the oldest universities in mainland China.

About SWJTU

The university was originally founded at Shanhaiguan, Hebei in 1896, and it is currently located in Chengdu, Sichuan, a major city in the southwest part of the country. The University has three campuses: the main Xipu campus, the Jiulidi campus in downtown Chengdu, and Emei campus about 90 miles to the southwest of the city snuggled at the foot of the Mount Emei, one of China’s four sacred Buddhist mountains. The university offers programs at the graduate and undergraduate level to approximately 60,000 students.

Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) was founded at Shanhaiguan in 1896, named then Imperial Chinese Railway College. It is one of the oldest universities in China majoring in engineering. In 1905, it was moved to Tangshan, Hebei Province, and was renamed Tangshan Jiaotong University, Tangshan Railway Institute, and so on. In 1972, the university was removed to Emei, Sichuan province, and began to use its present name-Southwest Jiaotong University. In 1989, it was moved to Chengdu, and in 2002, the construction of a new campus covering an area of over 3,000 mu was started in Chengdu. With this, a new pattern of “ one university, in two places, with three campuses” is coming into being.

Currently, the university has 18 schools, 3 departments and 2 divisions, with students totaling more than 38000, teachers and staff over 3900, which including full-time teachers about 1800, professors and associate professors about 1000, 3 CAS academicians and 2 CAE academicians. In addition, there are also 29 academicians from CAS and CAE who serve as part-time professors at the university’s invitation. There are now 45 PHD programs, 95 master degree accredit posts, 61 undergraduate majors and 7 post-doctorate research centers, 3 national basic scientific research and teaching talents training bases, 6 national key disciplines and 1 national key lab.

SWJTU pays great attention to international exchanges and cooperations, and has now established good collaboration relationships with over 70 universities of 50 countries and states. Each year, SWJTU invites over 250 long and short-term international experts, and over 300 long-term international students from more than 20 countries and states study here.

Academic standing

The most recent official ranking made by Ministry of Education (based on input-output performance), which was published in the "People's Daily", ranked UESTC the 5th among the 39 "Project 985" Universities, surpassing Fudan, Tianjin, Xi'an Jiaotong, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Sichuan, Shanghai Jiaotong, Sun Yat-sen and Nankai.

UESTC is the only higher-education institution in China that covers all 6 National Key Disciplines in electronic and information science and technology. It also has 22 Ministerial or Provincial Key Disciplines, 4 National Key Labs and 39 Ministerial or Provincial Key Labs. UESTC offers 36 MoE-authorized subject areas for a Ph.D. It achieved 43 National Awards in science, over 600 ministerial or provincial awards, about 500 patents and 20,000 scientific papers and books during the past decade. Research funding reached RMB 510 million (2007).

International collaboration

UESTC currently has co-training agreements in place with over 40 overseas institutions, such as Purdue University, University of Glasgow and University of Minnesota in the World Top 100 University League. About UESTC

Located in Chengdu, University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC), formerly Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering (CIRE), is reputed to be “the cradle of China’s national electronic industry”. (Chinese: 电子科技大学)

In 1956, under the instruction of Premier Zhou Enlai, the inception of Chengdu Institute of Radio Engineering ushered in the first higher education institution of electronic and information science and technology of China. CIRE was then created from the combination of electronics-allied divisions of three well-established universities: Shanghai Jiaotong University, Southeast University (the then Nanjing Institute of Technology) and South China University of Technology. As early as the 1960s, it was ranked as one of the nation's Key Higher Education Institutions. In 1997, UESTC was included in the first group of universities in the “211 Project”, a national program for advancing China's higher education. In September 2001, UESTC was selected as one of the 39 elite research-intensive universities in China that gain special funding under "Project 985".

Today, UESTC has developed into a multidisciplinary university directly reporting to the Ministry of Education, which has electronic information science and technology as its nucleus, engineering as its major field, and incorporates nature science, management, economics and liberal arts. UESTC has more than 3,000 faculty members, of whom 7 are academicians of CAS & CAE, 196 Ph.D. advisors, 325 full professors and 483 associate professors. It has a current enrollment of 26,000 students, including about 10,000 Ph.D. and M.S. candidates. Since its foundation in 1956, UESTC has trained more than 100,000 graduates.

Campus

UESTC has two campuses, occupying 2.67 km2 (about 660 acres). The new campus has 25,000 sets of equipment with a library of over three million volumes, and the largest gymnasium in an Asian university.

Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (西南财经大学) (Founded in 1952)

Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (simplified Chinese: 西南财经大学; pinyin: Xīnán Cáijīng Dàxué), locally known as SWUFE, is a university in Chengdu, Sichuan province, China.

Founded in 1952, it is one of the leading financial universities in mainland China and has a student population of around 20,000.

Sichuan Normal University (四川师范大学) (Founded in 1946)

Sichuan Normal University (SNU; Chinese: 四川师范大学) is the oldest normal university located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. It is the largest provincial key university with the most complete courses offered among the provincial universities and colleges in Sichuan province. It has about 35,000 students with 32,000 full-time undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students. There are about 3,000 faculty and staff, of whom 770 are professors and associate professors, and 150 have Doctorates. 17 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering have accepted SNU positions as chief, part-time or emeritus professors.

History

The origin of SNU can be traced back to China Northeast University (CNEU) when it moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province in 1938. After the War of Resistance Against Japan (1937-1945) was over, CNEU moved back to Northeast China. However, some CNEU faculty and staffs stayed in Sichuan, and in 1946, they established Northern Sichuan Workers and Peasants College on the same site of CNEU campus in Santai County. Later, it was renamed as Northern Sichuan University and moved to Nanchong City. In 1952, during the period of the merger of universities and colleges across the country, Sichuan Teachers College (STC) came into being. It mainly grew out of Northern Sichuan University, and at the same time, it merged with Eastern Sichuan College of Education and some specialties from Sichuan University and West China University. In 1956, STC moved to Chengdu, and in 1985, approved by the State Commission of Education, STC was renamed as Sichuan Normal University.

Campus

SNU is located southeast of downtown Chengdu, and is outside Chengdu's 2nd Ring Road. It now has four campuses, the main campus, the Eastern Campus, Chenglong Campus and Shizishan Campus. The campus which is located in Jinjiang (Chinese: 锦江) District is the main campus, and it covers an area of 3,000 mu. Its library is the third largest in Sichuan Province, and it has a collection of bound volumes of 300,000 titles.

SNU consists of 18 colleges: Chinese Language and Literature, Mathematics and Software, Continuing Education and others. Approved by the Ministry of Education, SNU set up two separate colleges. These campuses have 21 research institutes and sectors, 69 undergraduate specialties and 42 specialties entitled to grant master's degrees. SNU is also authorized to enroll students for master's degree in education and students for certificates in various specialties at graduate level. In addition, SNU has 29 key disciplines and laboratories as well as personnel training centres.

Achievements

In the past five years, SNU faculty staff have undertaken over 400 research projects that come from the National Social Sciences Foundation, the National Natural Sciences Foundation, the Xinhuo Program at national level, the National 863 Key Program of High Technology, the Tenth-Five Years Planning of the National Education Science as well as other scientific and technological programs at ministerial or provincial level. In addition, SNU faculty staff have published over 500 academic books and 5,000 academic theses and papers. 380 of these were printed by SCI, EI, or ISTP journals. SNU faculty staff also have obtained 130 prizes in the name of Scientific and Technologic Awards at national or provincial level, Invention Awards, Philosophy and Social Sciences Achievement Awards and High Quality Teaching Achievement Awards.

Southwest University for Nationah3ties (西南民族大学) (Founded in 1951)

Southwest University for Nationalities (Hanzi: 西南民族大学) often called Minzu Daxue in English, is a small university located in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province. Its student population is largely composed of ethnic minorities, but it has recently opened up to Han Chinese and foreigners as well. Its main campus is located in the southwestern section of the 1st ring road encircling central Chengdu. The university has two other campuses. One is located in Shuangliu county, near the airport; the Taipingyuan campus is outside the second ring road.

Chengdu University of Technology (成都理工大学) (Founded in 1956)

History

The university was called Chengdu College of Geology before 1993. In May 2001, two other colleges amalgamated with the CDUT. CDUT was one of ministerial key universities under the leadership of the Ministry of Land and Resources before 2000. It is now one of Sichuan Province's key universities.

Campus and Location

The CDUT campus is located at the center of Chenghua District of Chengdu City near the Shanghai-Chengdu Freeway. Presently, in addition to the main campus, CDUT has two non-adjacent campuses. With a major campus expansion in progress, the new campus will occupy an area of 1.33 km² around the present main and north campuses. The campus expansion will add a number of residence, teaching, and research facilities.

Faculty and Colleges

CDUT is a diverse university with 15 teaching units including 14 colleges. The specialties of CDUT are mainly in science and engineering with programs offered also in economics, liberal arts, management, law, and philosophy. In recognition of CDUT's strength and consequence, two degree programs have been appraised as key specialties at the national level and other 11 at the provincial level. CDUT also has two key laboratories at the national level and other 6 key laboratories at the provincial level and another 35 research institutions. There are 53 degree programs for undergraduate students, 39 master programs, and 16 doctorate programs. In addition, CDUT operates two post-doctoral research stations.

Students

More than 25,000 students are enrolled full-time for the year 2004. The faculty numbers of the university are 2021,including 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Science, 62 doctoral tutors, 126 professors and 261 associate professors. Seventy-two of them have been awarded the State Council Special Allowance. CDUT has 2 positions for Changjiang Special Scholarships.

Since its foundation, CDUT has completed 2200 research projects, of which over 600 have been awarded prizes at the national, provincial, and ministerial levels. Fifteen have received national patents. Since 1992, 26 teaching achievements and 26 textbooks compiled by CDUT staff have been awarded prizes at the national, provincial, or ministerial levels. With faculty encouragement, students individually and in teams participate in scientific research activities and various national and provincial competition activities such as "Challenge Cup" Scientific Production Competition, Enterprise Program Design Competition, Mathematic Model Creating Competition, and Electronic Design Competition. These students and student teams have been awarded 132 national level and 48 provincial or ministerial level prizes.

CDUT has an excellent international reputation for its international cooperative relationships and exchanges with more than 30 universities outside China. More than 2,000 scholars and experts from 40 countries and regions have visited CDUT to conduct research or to lecture. Students from the United States, Australia, Germany, Austria, Korea, Japan and Russia have studied at CDUT in different fields. Over 200 international cooperative research projects have already been completed. In recent years, the university has successfully held several international academic conferences.

The CDUT museum, with more than 60,000 specimens, is one of the largest natural museums in Western China. On display are many world and national class treasures. Among these treasures is the 22 meter long Mamenchisaurus hochuanensis, the world’s longest-necked Jurassic dinosaur. Another is the Chungkingichthys tachuenses, a rare complete fish fossil.

Library

The CDUT library holds 1,350,000 volumes and 14,000 electronic-journals. The university archive is one of the first-grade archives in China’s research institutions and universities, and one of the largest archives in Sichuan Province.

CDUT takes great pride in its 65,000 graduates. Most of them have become experts, senior engineers, technicians, and supervisors in various fields and departments around China.

Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CDUTCM) (成都中医药大学) (Founded in 1956)

Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CDUTCM; Chinese: 成都中医药大学; pinyin: Chéng​dū​ zhōng​ yī​yào​ Dà​xué​} is located in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province, China. CDU stand for Chengdu City in International air destination code. It also can be known as Chengdu TCM school.

There are also have some Hostels that student can stay along without going home but Hostel located is other place so school campus and student hostels are separated apart and there are also have female only Hostels that permitted entry for male.

Both Hostel accommodation and school campus are all located is in the main city downtown Chengdu so that convenience transport to go.

The school have been teaching for Chinese traditional Medicine and it also have short term courses, under graduate, graduate level, post graduate level and doctorate level as well.

Normally for local students Graduate level courses are conducted for 4 years. For local students there are many specialized of courses in University such as Pharmacist.

Some of the student hostels also have facilities as two telephone lines inside the rooms, 4 room mates shared with level stories building, it had been separated from senior to Junior students depend on the grades.

In the South-Western of China , Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CDUTCM) is located downtown of the city at Shi-er-qiao Rd, Chengdu 610075, Sichuan, China, it had been one of earliest established TCM universities in China since since are also have other three TCM Universities in China wide,it was founded in 1956. It had been one of the best TCM university in 1985. In 1995, it was approved by the Committee of the National Education Department of China to change the name short form of refer name into CDUTCM for Traditional Chinese Medicine and CDUT for University of Technology and so on.

The University has a graduate to higher education levels that from undergraduate to, graduate ,up to master and doctorate and teaching many sort of TCM courses . It also has Chinese medicine and the engineering, management, literature and agricultural courses, etc, it also has short term course as well as long term course including for foreigners and local students and some students have also go to further study after and some in Shanghai after graduation of University. The campus region has area of 130 hectares and over 50 majors and it is quite large enough. Chengdu Sport University (simplified Chinese: 成都体育大学; pinyin: Chéng​dū​ tǐ​yù​ Dà​xué​), is a sports university situated in the southwest of the downtown district of Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The university is administered by the national State General Administration of Sports and the Sichuan provincial government.

History

The university was formerly the Chengdu Institute of Physical Education (成都体育学院). It has a history of more than 60 years.The university is adjacent to Wuhou Shrine. It is the most famous kinesiology university in Southwest China, as well as one of the top five Universities of that kind. It has a reputation from sports, such as gymnastics, martial art and weightlifting, and is also recognized as an established authority in Sports Iatrology and the application of T.C.M. in prevention, therapy and recovery of sports injuries and fatigue. In 2002, it was the first college in China to establish a Sports-Oriented English Department, aiming to support the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 by providing translators and interpreters. For its contributions to the national sports undertakings, it is ranked as one of top three Sports Universities in China in 2006.

Xihua University (西华大学) (Founded in 1960)

Xihua University is a university in Sichuan province, People's Republic of China. Approved by the State Ministry of Education, Xihua University (XHU) was founded on April 16, 2003, formed by the merger of the former Sichuan University of Science and Technology and the former Teacher's College. The former Sichuan University of Science and Technology, once called the Sichuan Mechanical College of Agriculture, was founded in 1960. The former Teacher's College, located in Peng Zhou County, was founded in 1971.

Location

XHU covers about 2,850mu in the Hi-tech zone of Chengdu. The campus has a tributary of Ming Jiang River winding through it, and the Ancient Irrigation Project—Du Jiangyan and its national scenery zone is to the west. XHU's school motto is “Diligence, Virtue and Excellence”.

The university consists of 16 schools, one department and 52 undergraduate programs, covering the fields of Science, Management, Liberal Arts, Technique, Economy, Law and Education. Currently, the university enrolls students from 23 provinces and is qualified to enroll foreign students. There are about 22,000 full-time students, including 16,000 undergraduates and 400 graduates. It has been a Provincial Key Base for Personnel Training and Scientific Research. It has set up a campus network and the library houses about 1.5 million volumes, of which some are digital books.

Staff

Having paid great attention to the faculty building, XHU now has 1,400 teachers and staff members, among whom 380 teachers own the title of senior post. XHU has also invited 3 academicians to be directors of the key provincial laboratories, 14 other academicians and 43 distinguished professors to be part-time professors.

Besides four Engineering Master Degree Programs, the university currently offers 18 other Masters Degree Programs. It has four key provincial disciplines, five provincial priority laboratories, one provincial engineering center, seven personnel training bases for Bachelor Degree, one model center for the basic teaching program and over 30 research and assessment centers. XHU is also qualified to admit four-year course equivalent ME applicants and hold graduate courses, enroll foreign students and offer doctoral programs jointly with other national principal universities.

XHU shows good potential and strength in developing scientific research. It has undertaken the state 863/CIMS Projects, the State Natural Science Fund Projects, the Projects of The 8th Five-Year Plan of the Ministry of Machinery Industry, the State Major Project of the 9th Five-Year Plan and the 10th Five-Year Plan, the Major Teaching and Research Projects of Personnel Training and Fostering For the 21st Century of Ministry of Education and many other ministerial and provincial major scientific research projects as well, and has won several science and technology achievement prizes and science and technology advanced prizes at the ministerial and provincial levels.

XHU pays great attention to cultivate well-rounded and developed students. They have won the first and the second national prizes in the National Electronic Design Competition for 6 years, the second national prize in Mathematical Model Design Competition, two national third prizes and organizing prizes in the Challenging Cup Competition in 2002 and a national third prize in 2000. The university has successfully held the Table Tennis Game of the 6th National Game of the Undergraduates, and won both the men's and women's gold and silver medals of the team title. In 2002, the university held 11 meetings of the 2002 Anniversary of China Scientific Committee. The university is the National Art Education Model and has been awarded the prize of a National Model for excellent organization of students practice work. Therefore, employers for their creative and diligent spirit welcome students of XHU. For years, the employment rate has been above 85%. XHU sets the strategy of developing the university through opening to the outside world. It has established collaborative relations with more than 20 universities from nearly 14 different countries and signed the 1-2-1 Educational Program with four American State Universities, providing its students a wonderful opportunity to earn dual degrees from both Chinese and American Universities over the course of four or five years.

For its good reputation, XHU has collected funds in many ways in order to develop itself. In 2002, the university signed an agreement with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and secured a loan of RMB one billion yuan. In 2002, the university signed another agreement with Xin Tiantong Co. Ltd, which will invest one-billion-yuan to build an extension of the campus. XHU will initiatively take part in the worldwide talent competition and strive to build first-class provincial disciplines. It aims to become a first-class provincial comprehensive university through having the society and the world in view and continuing to further the reforms of existing tertiary education and talent-cultivation models. In all, XHU will make great contributions to the Development of the West and the Sichuan Province.

Sichuan Agricultural University (SAU) is a university located in Ya'an city, Sichuan province, China and part of the “Project 211”, specialized in biotechnology and agricultural sciences, and as well as offering degrees in physical science, engineering, economics, management, veterinary medicine, liberal arts, pedagogy and law.

History

The institution was founded in 1906 as Sichuan Tong Sheng Agricultural School and in 1935 made a component of National Sichuan University. In 1956 it moved from Chengdu to Yaan, where Sichuan Agricultural College was founded as an independent institution in 1956. In 1985 it was renamed as Sichuan Agricultural University.
